outlawed - robbed – remembered

Video

A documentary about victims of National Socialism centred on Zurich.

German with English subtitles

The terror regime of National Socialism brought great suffering to millions of people, including people from and with a connection to Zurich. This book and the accompanying video tell the stories of the victims and the indifference of the Swiss authorities towards them. «outlawed – robbed – remembered» invites everyone interested in culture, society and history to take a look at the various dimensions of Switzerland’s relationship to National Socialism, viewed through the lens of Zurich. The video and book provide a valuable resource for teaching in elementary and vocational schools, for courses at universities and further education, and for organising memorials and commemorative events.

IG Transparenz

In 2021 a citizen’s initiative «Transparency» petitioned the the Mayor of Zurich and the Zürcher Kunsthaus to examine the controversial art collection of the E.G. Bührle Foundation, to check its origins (provenance) and to communicate the results of the research to the visitors of the museum in an attractive format. What is looted art? How were persecuted Jews forced to sell their collections? How does looted art relate to the extermination of the Jewish population in Europe? The City of Zurich responded positively to the IG Transparency’s concerns and promised to make sure that the Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection will be presented in the new art museum in the light of the latest research.
